I sit in the foyer of my kids’ school as I write this. Things are quiet now, but 15 minutes ago kids were running in, teachers heading to classes, and administrators catching certain students they “need to chat” with. It was pandemonium but the organized kind. The energy of the morning was palpable. So many kids, so much to do, and seemingly so little time. This is the end of the school year.
Final papers are due, locker clean-out has begun, and preparation for summer is almost complete. While your students may seem excited for summer to come, they likely have some other underlying emotions as well. Fear of the unknown of what next year may bring. Sadness about not seeing friends all summer long. Anxiety over change and the death of the familiar. All of this and more are things parents need to be aware of and recognize the importance of this time of year.
One of the greatest ways for your child to process the ups and downs of this year is through reflection.
Rebecca Brown
The end of the school year is crazy for parents. So many things to juggle, tasks to accomplish, and people to manage. Yet this is a time of year with great value to kids. Rebecca Brown addresses all of this in her article “The Importance of Ending the School Year Well”. She gives not just some practical things to think about, but also the reasons behind each focus we should have.
What do you think? Which of the 3 suggestions Rebecca gives are you great at? Any tips for others of us you wish to share? Which of the 3 are you needing to work on? How will you do that? As always be with the Lord’s people on the Lord’s Day.
Until Next Time
