“Daddy, daddy, watch me!” exclaimed my daughter from the other side of the pool, as I pulled my youngest along in the shallow end. She was standing on the edge of the diving board wearing her exuberant smile, proud of what she was about to show off for her dad. Brimming from ear to ear, she paused to ensure I was watching yelling one more time…” Daddy, are you ready?”. Before she could make her descent into the water, her older brother screamed out…”Dad, come here! Dad!!! Come here!!!”.
Parenting is hard because leading is hard. Leading is hard because relationships are hard. At the end of the day leadership in any realm – parenting, business, sports, etc. – comes down to relational influence. To lead someone else is really to influence them. And if we are going to influence others it begins and ends with relationships. Therefore every good leader must be good at building relationships. While that can often seem complicated it’s actually quite simple.
“intimacy is often founded in those mundane, mini-moments with our spouse (or any relationship).”
Lara d’Entremont
But don’t hear what I’m not saying. Just because something is simple, doesn’t mean it’s easy. Building relationships is anything but easy. Leadership is never easy. It rises and falls on relationships. Thus, every leader must be building relationships and building into relationships. Lara d’Entremont gives us all “A Simple Step in Building Relationships“. While what she says is not secret, it’s something often forgotten or ill-practiced.
What do you think? How is your leadership? How are you doing at building and deepening relationships? Where are the mundane, mini-moments you can arrest and invest in today? As always I love hearing from my readers, so drop a comment below, reach out to me on social media, or just share an additional thought with me. As always be with the Lord’s people on the Lord’s day.
Until Next Time…
