It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The holidays are abuzz in my home. The tree has been cut down, put up, and decorated. The house is decked out in all its Christmas regalia. The holiday music has been blaring for a few weeks now. And Christmas treats are being baked as I type. Christmas seems to take over our headphones, homes, activities, and routines. I’m not saying that is a bad thing, but it got me thinking of another takeover that is to come.

Heaven. That’s right! Thinking about Christmas made me think of the afterlife and the reality of a heavenly takeover. This in turn made me recall a question I read earlier this year. The question was, “Will there be Roombas in heaven?” This seems like a silly question. Who has the time to sit around and ruminate on the possible realities of a robotic vacuum cleaner being in the afterlife? But I think it was a helpful question.

Sometimes uncomfortable activities like running, memorizing, and forgiving are the very things that form us into the kinds of people we want to be.

John Dyer

You probably haven’t ever thought of tying a heavenly presence to a cordless automated sucking machine. To be honest, neither had I until I read John Dyer’s “Will There Be Roombas in Heaven?” article. Admittedly, I was skeptical at first, but like me, if you dive into Dyer’s article, I believe you will be challenged and blessed by it. Not to mention, you now have a great conversation starter for the next Christmas party you have to attend this weekend.

So as you sip that next glass of eggnog or down that next chocolate peppermint cookie, pull up the article, read through it and enjoy a vision of a heaven yet to come that may or may not include a Roomba. I’d love to hear how the conversations go at the Christmas parties you attend when you bring this question up as well. So provide me some entertainment and hit up the comment section below with stories and thoughts.

As always be with the Lord’s people on the Lord’s Day.
