I can’t wait for tomorrow. In less than 24 hours I will embark on a much anticipated trip. It is one we look forward to as a family every year. Next week will be a highlight of our summer and probably our entire year. What could cause so much excitement, so much anticipation? Family vacation!

There are many reasons I look forward to vacation each year as we get to enjoy a week away. The biggest reason I anticipate this week, like a young schoolboy on the first day of school, is the uninterrupted, focused time with my family. Vacation is that time away from the routine. It is an opportunity rejuvenate personally and relationally as a family. But there is still one big enemy vying for our time on vacation…

Within a few years of its unveiling, the smartphone had become part of us, fully integrated into the daily patterns of our lives.

Crossway

My phone! That is the biggest culprit of relational discord during our family vacation. Our phones are the potential disruptor of what should be a time of enjoyment, refreshing, and rejuvenation. While I may not always act like and realize the degree to which it is true, our phones are changing us (and the data supports it). Crossway’s research is simply one of many, but they put together a visually appealing infographic displaying how our phones are changing us. There are some very revealing findings. But I warn you, they are convicting findings as well.

I found the question the infographic posses right off the bat very challenging to consider? I hope you enjoy the article and infographic and I’d love to hear your challenges and hacks to utilizing yet not being controlled by your phone. As always be with the Lord’s people on the Lord’s day!
