“It’s the most ________________ time of the year”. How would you fill in that blank? Sitting next to my daughter, who just came home from school with a fever, I think busy. Maybe you can relate. There are so many school functions coming up. Then there are friend gatherings. Of course, there are work parties too. And I haven’t even mentioned the family festivities and celebrations to come. This time of year can be crazy.
No matter how hard we try, December just gets crazy. Regardless of the intentionality we start with, there is always just more to do and participate in than we ever expect. You likely are in the same schedule chaos. Programs, events, parties, decorating, and more. All of this on top of our regular workload and lifestyle seems exhausting…and it is. With all of these on our calendars and to-do lists I want to add one more…
Take a moment to let your mind, body, and spirit be refreshed.
Jeremy Maxfield
Rest! You heard me right. The other thing to add to your calendar and task list is rest. When it comes right down to it, Christmas is really all about rest. That is what the Gospel writers are actually telling us in the Bible. Jeremy Maxfield does a good job of reminding us of that and calling us to rest this Christmas in his article “A Quick Reminder to R.E.S.T. This Christmas“. Jeremy does a great job giving us a helpful acronym to show us what rest can and should look like for us this busy season.
I for one needed the challenge he offers, especially the E. What about you? Do you feel crazy busy this time of year? What can you do to ensure yourself some rest? Who will you do it with? When? Schedule it now and get it on that task list to make sure it’s done. We schedule what we value and consider this your friendly reminder to value rest this month!
I’d love to hear from you and how you plan to rest this Christmas season. As always be with the Lord’s people on the Lord’s day.
Until Next Time…
