Driving in my car. Getting my shower. Around the house. Randomly in my office at work. And occasionally in public. What do all of these have in common? It is where I and most likely you can be found singing from time to time. However, there is at least one place where I and others have noticed singing to be on the decline and dare I say, discouraged.
The discouragement may not be intentional. And my guess is the opposite is true, those leading in this setting hope more will join them in singing. But the reality is singing is on the decline at…church services! The time (typically Sunday morning) where the people of God (the church) meet for the purpose of praising God, there seems to be a decline in vocal singing.
This article takes a stab and gives 6 Reasons the Church is Not Singing. While I do not agree with every little detail in the article, I believe the overall points are valid. The fourth point was particularly challenging, especially as a father trying to lead his family in worship of the One True God! I hope you find it encouraging, edifying, and challenging as well.
As always be with the Lord’s people on the Lord’s day!
